How do I know a child can truly enjoy athletic activity when they're just learning to master basic skills like walking and jumping?
Because I was just three years old when I fell in love with gymnastics.
Those early experiences on the mats were exactly what physical activity should be for a kid - fun! And while I was having fun, I was learning to love fitness.
As I got older, I learned that while I was gleefully flipping and jumping across the mats, I was also improving my agility and building strength - not just the physical kind. Those lessons carried me through gymnastics competitions and even helped me earn a college degree in exercise physiology.
I've been coaching gymnastics, tumbling and cheerleading for more than 25 years.
Though I previously owned a gymnastics studio and operated a mobile gymnastics program, I never quite felt like I had found right way to instill a love of fitness and movement in young children.
Thats when I started using mats, rugs, and props to help children work on balance, strength, and spatial awareness through different activities. Stay tuned as Balance Beans Pathways continues to grow!
